Diploma in Immediate Medical Care

The Diploma in Immediate Medical Care (DIMC) examination from the Faculty of Prehospital Care (FPHC) at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) aims to assess the competencies of pre-hospital clinicians across multiple skills and areas of knowledge. It is open to doctors, nurses and paramedics.

The focus of the examination is:

  • Timely recognition, diagnosis, and management of conditions in the pre-hospital environment.
  • Deemphasizing reliance on hospital-based facilities for investigation and treatment.

The examination is noteworthy for testing applicants ability to manage emergency situations across all age groups (neonatal to elders) and also testing their skills at managing multiple casualty incidents in a prehospital setting.

The exam’s comprehensive approach aims to provide a thorough evaluation that goes beyond the traditional hospital-centric paradigm and other specialist examinations with a far narrower curricula.
